Urologist David Kaufman tells Women’s Health: “Any male odours down there have more to do with personal hygiene habits, rather than a medical issue. Translation? The dude forgot to shower. Gross! On the flip side, it may be clothing-related (say, overly tight jeans that don’t breathe well) although his diet could play a part too: “A guy who [eats] garlic followed by a full-court basketball game is going to sweat garlic,” David says.

“Try suggesting a shower or bath together before intimacy and make it a foreplay thing,” licensed clinical psychologist Ramani Durvasula recommends. If it’s something that’s happening consistently though, it’s worth speaking up.
“There’s no way to make this completely un-awkward.” But you’re still better off being direct, she says. “Over time, sex and intimacy may become aversive, which will be even more hurtful to your relationship.”
