Diabetes identified by the handle thickness

According to a new study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, a type based on the determination of handle strength-2 Diabetes in apparently healthy adults recognize. This could be a simple and cost-effective way, a previously undiscovered Diabetes to track.

It is known that muscle weakness in apparently healthy adults with type 2 Diabetes is associated. From this context, researchers have derived a possibility for the early detection of Diabetes: you have the grip strength of the test persons, in relationship to the body weight set and a standard value derived. Anyone who falls below this value, has an increased risk for type-2 Diabetes.

For example, the limit for women is at the age of 50 to 80 years of 0.49. An example: If the combined grip strength of the left and right Hand of a 60-year-old woman is 43 kg and body weight of 90 kg, the normalized grip is a strength in 43 : 90 = 0,478. Since this value is lower than 0,49 indicates an increased risk for Diabetes, and further Tests are appropriate.

"Our study identifies the extent of the strength or weakness of the hand grip. This correlates with type 2 Diabetes in otherwise healthy men and women, depending on body weight and age. Doctors now have a reliable Test to detect this at an early stage, before complications auftreten", the study’s leader, Dr. Elise C. Brown of Oakland University in Rochester, said.

Since type-2-Diabetes calls in the initial stage no symptoms, can prevent an early diagnosis result of damage to the nerves, eyes or kidneys or delay.
