What Is Your Mars Sign—And Why Does It Matter?

You check your horoscope every morning, set calendar alerts for astrological events (PSA: Mercury goes retrograde on July 7), and spend more time on the Co—Star app than Instagram. But, despite being an astrological aficionado, you might not know your Mars sign or, even if you do, what it means.

If your Mars is in Aries, you’re all about trusting your instincts. That’s why you tend to be direct and impulsive, says Montufar. “Your energy is fueled by the type of fire that keeps on burning,” she explains. That fire can easily fuel your anger, but once you cool off, you’re able to forgive and forget (phew!).

“More than any other sign, you have Mars on your side,” Montufar notes. “The only thing to watch out for is letting it control you.”

Got your Mars in Taurus? Good news: “You are a strong, stable, and highly sensual individual,” says Montufar. Anger isn’t really your ~thing~ (it takes a lot to piss you off), but when you do get upset, you can—pun intended—become a raging bull. Luckily, that doesn’t happen too often, since patience and long-term goals are your forte, she adds. And btw, you’re also a pro at enjoying earthy and multisensorial pleasures.

Ultimately, you live by the mantra: “Slow and steady wins the race.”

If your Mars is in Gemini, you might have a little trouble sitting still. But hey, it’s not totally your fault—you simply “need constant stimulation to keep your inner fire burning,” says Montufar. You’re the astrological equivalent of a chameleon, always adapting and changing. So don’t be surprised if you find yourself thriving in situations that require a change of pace, she explains.

When interacting with others, watch what you say. “Words are your weapons and debate your speciality,” according to Montufar, so use them wisely. You don’t want to talk anyone’s ears off…

With Mars in Cancer, you’re naturally sensitive and nurturing. While some might see that as weakness, it’s your hidden strength. “You love to protect the people you love, and your tenacity is unmatchable,” Montufar says.

Despite your sweet nature, the dark side of this Mars sign is “an inclination to passive-aggressiveness.” Spending some QT developing your confidence and self-esteem can work wonders.

If your Mars is in Leo, three words describe you: powerful, ambitious, and sexual. (Like, spend all weekend in bed-level sexual.) “You know what—or who—you want and how to get it,” Montufar explains. “Leading with your heart is your modus operandi.” You also have a knack for spreading fun and laughter wherever you go, making you the perfect party guest.

Most of the time, you exude a “good vibes only” attitude, but keep an eye on that temper. When you get angry, things get explosive.

With Mars is in Virgo, you’re basically the Wonder Woman of multitasking. You channel that superpower through your highly productive and goal-oriented nature, Montufar says. Your Mars sign will seriously benefit from taking a chill approach to sexual connections and life in general, especially if your chart shows other planets in Virgo.

So, the next time you spot a cutie when you’re out with friends, why not take a chance and say hello?

If your Mars is in Libra, let’s just say you’re likely not the best at making decisions (a.k.a. you spend 10 minutes debating which mascara to buy at Sephora). “However, once you make up your mind, you are able to get things done,” Montufar says. You’re also a people pleaser (not a bad thing!), so you’ve probably moderated an argument—or 10—between friends. Hey, someone’s got to keep the peace, right?

You’re all about keeping everyone happy (obvs), but make sure you learn how to defend yourself as much as you defend others, Montufar cautions.

When your Mars is in Scorpio, you’re at your best when challenging yourself to do the impossible. Plus, Montufar says, “You are a force of nature and arguably have the strongest sexual stamina in the entire zodiac.” (Call me?)

You see the world as black and white, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It just means you find balance through the release of energy, she says. So you’ll definitely want to prioritize a healthy sex life and exercise routine. (Seriously, call me.)

Got your Mars in Sagittarius? Patience is a virtue, but not, um, yours (sorry, but it’s true). Luckily, your awesome sense of adventure makes up for it, according to Montufar. You can multitask without breaking a sweat, even when that means juggling multiple projects—or lovers—at once, she says.

To channel your inner fire, physical activity is your BFF. Spin class, anyone?

If your Mars is in Capricorn, congrats! “You enjoy the best placement for this planet,” says Montufar. So, thank Mars for helping you stay on top of all the things. Plus, she adds, “You are focused, ambitious, and level-headed—even when upset.” Your friends, fam, and romantic partner definitely appreciate it.

Just be mindful of your need to be in control. It’ll be hard to let go and just live sometimes, but you’ll benefit from taking the occasional chill pill.

Got your Mars in Aquarius? You’re an intellectual with an original and authentic view of the world, says Montufar. That individuality can also make you headstrong, so you likely hate it when you don’t get your way.

In the bedroom, you can be pretty detached during sex, unless your partner is smart enough to stimulate your brainy side, too. (It probably wouldn’t hurt getting creative with the dirty talk…)

If your Mars is in Pisces, “you float through life in a gentle and almost melodic manner,” says Montufar. You’re the textbook definition of “go with the flow,” effortlessly compassionate and easy-going—sometimes to a fault, she adds.

The only prob with this Mars sign? You have a tendency to be passive. The secret, she says, to handling that is finding an outlet to channel your creativity. Maybe it’s about time you took that pottery class you’ve been eyeing…
